Carl Benjamin

Carl Benjamin, AKA Sargon of Akkad, is a highly successful YouTuber and creator of the Lotus Eaters podcast and educational platform.

In this fascinating discussion with Nick Dixon, he talks about why he is no longer a liberal, what it means to be an 'Englishman', and why we need what he calls 'Postmodern traditionalism'.

He also reflects on his recent Twitter exchange with Peter Hitchens, and explains his theory of 'Sensible Centrism'. Oh, and he tells us why we should bring back the death penalty.

Not for the easily offended, but an excellent episode for those with an open mind.

Addtl’ thought: Carl pointed out we have lost the culture war so he proposes getting them on their own rules when it comes to English traditions/values. I would argue we have not lost the war; it’s a long fight, much as the fight to eradicate slavery in UK and US. was. I don’t believe woke and English cultures can co-exist. A time will come where only 1 will take over. A nation can only survive if their ppl and institutions support the values of that nation. A house divided can’t stand.

Really intimate episode. Def more than a simple Q&A episode. Especially appreciate the debate on cultural values and the roads Christians and atheists take when it comes to why these values are worth defending/preserving. It appears Carl recognizes English values stem from a Christian legacy but doesn’t believe in an objective, single point outside of man’s existence that mankind can point to that is constant and unchanging. Appreciate Carl and Nick could have an interesting conversation!

Wow. It seems that Carl, even though he thinks he understands Christianity, doesn’t at all. The Christian understanding of God is not simply as ”the sum total of everything”. Jesus CHRIST is at the centre of CHRISTianity. And he is both God and man. He is literally the whole point of Christianity. So I really do hope that one day Carl actually comes into contact with the actual Christian religion, and indeed with the PERSONAL God who is at the centre of it.
